PRS Legislative Research: October Internship, New Delhi, Apply by Sept 20

About the Internship

PRS Legislative Research is offering a valuable research internship for October 2024 at its New Delhi office. This is an exceptional opportunity for students and young professionals interested in legislative processes, public policy, and governance. The internship is structured to provide participants with hands-on experience in analyzing legislative and policy issues, contributing to parliamentary debates, and engaging with India’s legislative framework. The internship duration is flexible, ranging between 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the intern’s availability and project requirements.

About the Organization

PRS Legislative Research, founded in 2005, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the Indian legislative process by making it more informed, transparent, and participatory. Based in New Delhi, PRS provides Members of Parliament (MPs) with analysis on legislation and policy, aiding them in their role as lawmakers. The organization operates under the Institute for Policy Research Studies and is supported by philanthropic donations from various Indian institutions and individuals. PRS is known for its commitment to enhancing the quality of governance in India through its research and outreach initiatives.

Eligibility

The internship is open to individuals with a deep interest in the functioning of Parliament and the legislative process in India. Strong writing and analytical skills are essential for this role. While specific academic qualifications are not mentioned, candidates with backgrounds in law, public policy, political science, and related fields are likely to benefit most from this experience. The internship is particularly suited for those who are proactive, inquisitive, and passionate about contributing to India’s legislative process.

Role and Responsibilities

Interns at PRS will be involved in various tasks depending on whether the Parliament is in session or not. During a session, interns will assist analysts with projects related to the issues being debated in Parliament. Outside of sessions, interns will be matched with analysts based on their interests and will work on related research tasks. All interns are expected to complete an internship project, which involves conducting in-depth research on a relevant topic. Additionally, interns will support the research team in analyzing legislative and policy issues and may also engage with the outreach team in tracking legislative activities and managing citizen engagement.

Perks

While the internship is unpaid and does not provide accommodation, it offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain insight into India’s legislative process and develop research and analytical skills. Interns will work closely with experts in the field, contributing to significant policy analysis and gaining experience that will be valuable for careers in law, public policy, governance, and related areas.

The internship is strictly offline, requiring interns to work on-site at PRS Legislative Research’s office located at 3rd Floor, Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, 212, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, New Delhi.
