About the Internship

NITI Aayog, the National Institution for Transforming India, has initiated an Internship Scheme aimed at engaging students from various academic backgrounds in the policy-making process. This internship is a valuable opportunity for students pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degrees, as well as research scholars. It offers a practical learning experience in public policy and economic development, contributing to the intern’s academic and professional growth. The engagement period ranges from a minimum of six weeks to a maximum of six months, providing flexibility to accommodate the academic schedules of students.

About the Organisation

NITI Aayog serves as the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India. Established with the aim of fostering cooperative federalism, it involves State Governments in the economic policy-making process using a bottom-up approach. NITI Aayog’s mandate includes catalyzing economic development and enhancing the implementation of policy initiatives across the country. Through strategic planning and collaborative efforts, it aims to transform India’s socio-economic landscape.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the NITI Aayog Internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Undergraduate Students: Must have completed or appeared in the term-end exams of the second year or fourth semester of their bachelor’s degree course, with at least 85% marks in the 12th class.
  2. Graduate Students: Must have completed or appeared in the term-end exams of the first year or second semester of their postgraduate program, or be pursuing research/Ph.D., with at least 70% marks in their graduation.
  3. Recent Graduates/PG Students: Those who have appeared in the final exam or just completed graduation/post-graduation and are waiting for admission to higher studies can also apply, provided they have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in all semesters of their graduation/post-graduation.
  4. Timing: The period between the declaration of the final exam result and the desired month of internship should not exceed six months.

Role and Responsibilities

Interns at NITI Aayog will be involved in a range of activities, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting research and analysis on policy issues.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and policy briefs.
  • Engaging in data collection and interpretation.
  • Participating in seminars, workshops, and discussions relevant to the assigned projects.
  • Supporting the administrative and operational functions of various departments.

Application Procedure

Interested applicants can apply online through the official NITI Aayog website. The application process involves the following steps:

  1. Online Application: Applicants must fill out the online application form available on the NITI Aayog website. The application can be made six months in advance but not later than two months before the desired month of internship.
  2. Indicate Area of Interest: Clearly mention the area of interest in the application form to align with the available projects.
  3. Document Submission: Selected candidates must produce original mark sheets and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective colleges or institutions at the time of joining. Failure to provide these documents will result in cancellation of the candidature. The format for the NOC is provided in Annexure ‘C’ of the official notification.
  4. A candidate can apply for internship only once during a financial year.
  5. interested applicants may apply online only in the address ink to be indicated in the website of NITI Aayog during 1st to 1Oth of every month. Application can only be made six months in advance but not later than 2 months before the month in which internship is desired. For example if any applicants wants to join internship programme which is commencing in the month of Apr-19 then he/she can apply from the month of Oct- 18 to Feb- 18. Application will be valid for the desired month.
