About the Internship
The Department of Justice, under the Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, is offering a Summer Internship Programme for the year 2024. This internship provides a unique opportunity for young law students to gain practical experience and insights into the functioning of the Department of Justice. Interns will be involved in various specialized areas of justice delivery, including Access to Justice, eCourts services, Fast Track Special Courts, and legal aid programs.
About the Organisation
The Department of Justice plays a crucial role in the Indian judicial system. It handles the appointment, resignation, and removal of the Chief Justice of India, Judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Justices, and Judges of the High Courts. Additionally, it implements key schemes like the Development of Infrastructure Facilities for the Judiciary, setting up Fast Track Special Courts for rape and POCSO Act cases, the E-court Project for computerizing courts across the country, and providing legal aid to the poor.
Eligibility
- Indian students pursuing studies in the 2nd & 3rd year of a three-year LLB course or the 3rd to 5th year of a five-year LLB course.
- Students who have completed their LLB course from any recognized college/law school/university.
Role and Responsibilities
Interns will engage in:
- Research and referencing work.
- Various specialized areas of justice delivery such as Access to Justice initiatives (Tele-law, Nyaya Bandhu, Legal Aid, Probono legal services), eCourts services, and Fast Track Special Courts.
- Assisting in the implementation of the National Mission for Justice Delivery & Legal Reforms and CSS for the development of infrastructure in District and Subordinate Judiciary.
Perks
- Stipend: Rs 5000 per month, paid upon completion of the internship.
- Certificate of Internship upon satisfactory completion, requiring 90% attendance.
Mode and Location
The internship is a full-time, on-site program that requires physical attendance at the Department of Justice premises from 9.00 AM to 5.30 PM.

Important Dates

- Second Slot: July 10, 2024, to August 9, 2024 (Application deadline: July 5, 2024)
- Third Slot: August 12, 2024, to September 11, 2024 (excluding weekends on August 10 and 11) (Application deadline: August 5, 2024)
Selection
Selection is based on a first-come, first-served basis. Previous interns with the Department of Justice will not be considered for this year’s program. All communications will be sent via SMS and email.
Placement
Selected interns will be assigned to officers at various levels within the Department of Justice, ensuring comprehensive exposure to different aspects of the department’s functions.
Submission of Report
At the end of the internship, interns are required to submit a report on their work undertaken during the program.
Certificate of Internship
Certificates will be awarded based on satisfactory completion, which includes maintaining 90% attendance.
Termination
The Department reserves the right to terminate the internship at any time without assigning reasons.
Terms and Conditions
- Interns must arrange their own accommodation.
- Adherence to the Department’s rules and regulations is mandatory.
- Confidentiality protocols must be followed.
- The internship does not imply employment with the Department.
