About Internship

Project 39A, part of the National Law University, Delhi, offers a robust and rewarding internship program designed to provide meaningful exposure to the complexities and nuances of the criminal justice system in India. This internship, available from March 2024 to March 2025, aims to engage students in substantial legal work and research, enhancing their understanding of criminal law, forensic science, mental health, and the administration of the death penalty.

About Organisation

National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) is a premier legal education institution in India, offering comprehensive and interdisciplinary legal education. The university’s mission is to promote legal and ethical values, foster the rule of law, and uphold the objectives enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Project 39A, a significant initiative of NLUD, focuses on research and pro bono litigation concerning the criminal justice system, inspired by Article 39-A of the Indian Constitution. It aims to trigger new conversations on legal aid, torture, forensics, mental health, and the death penalty.

Eligibility

The internship is open to students from India and other countries who are enrolled in recognized undergraduate or postgraduate programs in:

  • Law
  • Humanities
  • Social Sciences
  • Management
  • Media and Communications

Students enrolled in other programs may apply, but preference will be given to those in the aforementioned fields.

Role and Responsibilities

Interns will be involved in various tasks, including:

  • Assisting with litigation activities
  • Participating in research projects
  • Engaging in public outreach initiatives
  • Handling administrative duties
  • Observing the working hours of Project 39A and working from its offices

While the organization will try to consider the interests of the interns, task allocation will be based on the organization’s requirements.

Perks

  • Stipend: Full-time interns will receive Rs 10,000 for every four weeks of internship. Part-time interns will receive Rs 5,000 for every four weeks.
  • Hands-on Experience: Interns will gain practical exposure to the criminal justice system and related research areas.
  • Professional Development: This internship offers significant learning and networking opportunities within the legal field.

Mode and Location

  • Mode: Full-time preferred; part-time considered.
  • Location: NLU Delhi campus in Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi 110078.

Important Dates

  • Application Deadline: Applications should be submitted at least six weeks before the first day of the proposed month of internship. For instance, if you plan to start your internship on August 15, apply by June 30.
