About the Competition
The 14th Padma Vibhushan N.A. Palkhivala Memorial National Moot Court Competition and Research Paper Competition is organized by Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai. Established in 2014, MNLU Mumbai has gained recognition for its excellence in legal education. The university aims to promote advanced learning and practice in law through competitions like this. This prestigious event is held in association with the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (Western Zone) and the Income-Tax Appellate Tribunal Bar Association, Mumbai.
This competition, named in honor of the esteemed jurist Padma Vibhushan N.A. Palkhivala is designed to nurture and develop the interest of law students in the field of taxation law.
The theme of the moot court competition and research paper competition focuses on Taxation Law. Participants are expected to explore and argue various legal principles and issues surrounding tax law, with a focus on promoting clarity and innovative legal thinking in the field.
About the Opportunity
The moot court competition revolves around taxation law, offering law students an enriching experience to develop their skills in research, writing, and argumentation. Participants will argue complex legal issues related to taxation law, enhancing their understanding of this field and fostering an interest in tax law practice. The event also features a research paper competition, offering students the opportunity to showcase their scholarly work in taxation law.
Eligibility
The competition is open to:
- All bona fide undergraduate law students enrolled in a 3-year or 5-year law program at any recognized institution.
- Each institution can register up to two teams.
- Mixed teams are allowed, as long as all participants are law students.

Moot Court Competition:
- Winner: Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 40,000/-
- Runner-Up: Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 30,000/-
- Second Runner-Up: Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 20,000/-
- Best Speaker: Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000/-
- Best Researcher: Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000/-
- Best Memorial (Petitioner): Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000/-
- Best Memorial (Respondent): Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000/-
Research Paper Competition:
- Winner: Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000/-
- Runner-Up: Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 7,500/-
- Second Runner-Up: Trophy + Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000/-

- Registration Deadline: 20th September 2024
- Memorial Submission Deadline: 2nd October 2024
- Clarification Request Deadline: 15th September 2024
- Final Clarifications Release: 20th September 2024
- Oral Rounds: 17th – 20th October 2024
Registration Process
For the moot court competition, a registration fee of Rs. 2,500/- per team is required. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid by all registered teams, irrespective of their participation in the oral rounds.
Note: There is no registration fee for participating in the research paper competition.
- For the Moot Court Competition, teams must register by completing the Google form and paying the registration fee by 15th September 2024 (11:59 P.M.).
- For the Research Paper Competition, students can confirm their participation by submitting their research papers by 30th September 2024 using the provided Google form.
