Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) is seeking Senior Researcher & Researcher to join the Oxford Poverty & Human Development Initiative (OPHI). This role focuses on social connectedness, belonging, well-being, and multidimensional poverty, with an emphasis on their measurement and intersection with policy agendas. The position reports to Dr. Sabina Alkire, OPHI’s Director.
About Organization
The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) is a research center within the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID). OPHI aims to develop and apply multidimensional approaches to measuring poverty and well-being. Collaborating with various international organizations, OPHI works to shape policies that reduce poverty and enhance human development globally. ODID, known for its commitment to diversity and equality, holds an Athena Swan bronze award, recognizing its efforts to create an inclusive and supportive working environment.
Eligibility
The ideal candidate will have at least a Master’s degree in social policy, public health, development studies, or a related field. Essential skills include excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities, proficiency in communicating across cultures and disciplines, and strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Experience in drafting academic articles, research reports, and policy briefs is also required.
Role and Responsibilities
– Conduct comprehensive analysis and research on complex issues using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
– Coordinate collaborative research between OPHI and the Samuel Centre for Social Connectedness (SCSC).
– Provide research and project management support for related work streams and author or co-author papers.
– Plan and coordinate OPHI’s research seminars and workshops, liaising with speakers, authors, and partners.
– Build networks with other Oxford departments and external institutions to support OPHI’s work on multidimensional poverty and well-being measurement.
– Participate in OPHI’s research activities, including workshops, seminars, meetings, and other collaborative events.
Perks
Senior Researcher:
Pay Scale: Standard Grade 8
Salary: £45,585 – £54,395
Researcher:
Pay Scale: Standard Grade 6
Salary- £32,332 to £38,205.
