About Internship

Project 39A at National Law University, Delhi, offers a comprehensive and rewarding internship program aimed at providing meaningful exposure to the criminal justice system in India. The program accepts interns on a rolling basis from March 2024 to March 2025. Interns will engage in research, litigation, and public outreach initiatives, gaining insights into various aspects of criminal justice, including forensic science, legal aid, mental health, torture, and the administration of the death penalty.

About Organization

National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) is a premier institution in India, offering undergraduate and postgraduate legal education. The university aims to impart comprehensive and interdisciplinary legal education that is socially relevant, promoting legal and ethical values, and fostering the rule of law.

Project 39A, a part of NLUD, focuses on research and pro bono litigation related to the criminal justice system in India. Inspired by Article 39-A of the Indian Constitution, the project uses empirical research to re-examine the criminal justice system, covering areas such as legal aid, torture, forensics, mental health, criminal law, and the death penalty.

Eligibility

– Open to students in India and abroad, enrolled in recognized undergraduate or postgraduate programs in law, humanities, social sciences, management, or media and communications.

– Preference is given to those enrolled in the aforementioned programs, but students from other disciplines may also apply.

Role and Responsibilities

– Assist with litigation activities and research projects

– Participate in public outreach initiatives

– Support administrative duties as required

– Work full-time from the Project 39A office at NLU Delhi

– Part-time interns must commit to a minimum of 12 weeks

Perks

– Stipend of Rs 10,000 for every four weeks of full-time internship

– Part-time interns receive Rs 5,000 for every four weeks

– Exposure to various aspects of the criminal justice system

Mode and Location

– Full-time and part-time positions available

– Based at the NLU Delhi campus in Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi 100078

Application Procedure

– Applications must be submitted at least six weeks before the proposed start date of the internship.

– For example, for an internship starting on 15 September, apply before 30 July.
