The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Thanjavur is seeking applications for the positions of Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel. These roles are crucial for providing legal representation to individuals who cannot afford private legal services. The Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel will handle complex criminal cases and guide junior attorneys, while the Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel will assist in day-to-day legal tasks and represent clients in less complex criminal matters.

Eligibility
- Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel:
- Minimum 7 years of practice in criminal law.
- Excellent understanding of criminal law and relevant statutes.
- Must have handled at least 20 criminal trials in Sessions Courts.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal research and IT skills.
- Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel:
- Between 0 to 3 years of practice in criminal law.
- Strong writing and research skills.
- Good oral and written communication.
- Proficiency in IT work.
Role and Responsibilities
- Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel:
- Handle complex criminal cases in the Sessions Courts.
- Represent clients in criminal trials and ensure their rights are defended.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to the junior defense counsel.
- Assist the DLSA in implementing legal aid schemes and conducting legal awareness programs.
- Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel:
- Support the Deputy Chief Counsel in preparing legal documents and case strategies.
- Conduct research, draft legal submissions, and assist in courtroom representation.
- Handle minor criminal cases under supervision and ensure proper documentation.
Both roles involve collaborating with other defense attorneys to ensure effective and timely representation for clients.
